What does closed group mean on Facebook?
Closed groups, which only let current members view group content and see who else is in the group, will now be labeled as private but visible groups. Secret groups, which are hidden from search, but still require an invitation to join, will be changed to a private and hidden group.
A Secret Group is one form of Private Group on Facebook. There are two privacy options for Facebook Groups: public and private (formerly public and closed groups). If you're creating a private group, you can then adjust the settings to then have it visible or hidden from Facebook search (formerly called secret groups).
Overall, they are just as open as Public groups, except for three main differences: (1) new members must ask to join or be invited by a member, rather than just adding themselves; (2) only current members can see the content of group posts; and (3) only current members can see the group in their News Feed.

If we have two elements in the group, a and b, it must be the case that a*b is also in the group. This is what we mean by closed. It's called closed because from inside the group, we can't get outside of it.

Secret groups offer the same level of privacy as closed groups under a cloak of invisibility. No one can search for secret groups or request to join them. The only way to get in is to know someone who can invite you. Everything shared in a secret group is visible only to its members.
Private groups can't change to public to protect the privacy of group members. But group admins can choose to make their groups visible or hidden.

Your group posts will still be published on your Timeline, but they will only be seen by other members of that closed group. In other words, your Facebook friends who aren't also members of that group (and members of the public at large) won't be able to see the posts you make in a closed group.

On Group Settings page, click on the “Closed” radio button under “Privacy.” When you are done, click on the “Save” button at the bottom of the page to make this group “Closed.” The setting will be updated with a notification “Your changes have been saved” at the top of the page.
